Happy Summer! Summer is half passed and I'm starting to turn by attention back to school. We will open our year talking about identity. Who are you? Are you different online than you are in person? What makes for responsible digital citizenship. Who manages your digital identity? I've been wondering about digital footprints and first impressions, so much of my summer learning has taken to the web to read about these topics. Here are a few pieces I will share when we get back to school: Bud Hunt's "On Modeling" explores public versus private personas. Dean Shareski's "You or Google? Who Controls Your Identity?" challenges readers to craft content that showcases our work and lives. Shareski's richly linked "Digital Citizenship or whatever your want to call it" examines assumptions. I'm looking forward to talking and learning with you come fall! In the meantime, if you want to use the issue of digital citizenship or another learning-related topic as a choice topic for summer reading, you can! Instead of reading a book, read about the topic online. Log your reading and thinking using Google documents (or another digital tool) and be ready to share when we get back to school. Our school is dedicated to summer reading requiring all students to read 2 books each summer (A.P.and I.B. courses have additional requirements.): a grade level book and a choice book. Grade level books are noted below. A graphic organizer and more information about summer reading can be found on the school's website. The Florida Teens Read program recommends great books each year--consider making one of these titles your choice book this summer. Read, read, read! Be sure to set up a Google account the first week of school! We will be using Google Calendars, Google Documents and other tools all year! |
